Setup & Support

Beam controls TVs over your home Wi‑Fi. The one golden rule: your iPhone and TV must be on the same network — not a guest network, hotel VLAN, or VPN.

Getting started

  1. 1Install Beam from the App Store and allow Local Network access when iOS asks.
  2. 2Wait for your TV to appear in the scan, or add it by IP address.
  3. 3Pair once: Google TV shows a code, Samsung and LG show an Allow prompt on the TV, Fire TV uses a one‑time developer setting.
  4. 4That's it — Beam reconnects automatically from then on.

Frequently asked

My TV doesn't show up in the scan
  • Confirm the TV and phone are on the same Wi‑Fi and turn off any VPN while testing.
  • iOS Settings → Beam → make sure Local Network is on.
  • Wake the TV with its physical remote first — many TVs nap their Wi‑Fi in standby.
  • Still nothing? Add the TV manually by IP (find it in your TV's network settings).
Typing doesn't reach the TV
  • Open a search box on the TV first — text goes to the focused field.
  • Google TV: if nothing appears after Send, tap Hide TV Keyboard & Send Again — the TV's own on‑screen keyboard can swallow remote text.
  • Some apps — notably YouTube and Prime Video — draw their own keyboards and don't accept typed text from any remote app. Beam tells you when you're in one.
Power on doesn't work
  • Wi‑Fi wake needs a little standby power — keep the TV plugged in, and stay on the same network.
  • Roku: turn on Settings → System → Power → Fast TV start.
  • Samsung: turn on Settings → General → Network → Expert Settings → Power On with Mobile.
  • LG: turn on Settings → General → Devices → External Devices → Mobile TV On.
  • Beam shows these exact steps in‑app whenever a wake attempt needs them. Power off always works.
Setting up Fire TV
  • On the TV: Settings → My Fire TV → About → tap the device name 7 times to unlock Developer Options.
  • Then Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → ADB Debugging → On.
  • Connect from Beam and choose OK on the TV's “Allow USB debugging?” pop‑up (check Always allow).
Google TV stopped responding entirely

Rarely, the TV's own remote service crashes (it pairs but never connects). Unplug the TV from wall power for 60 seconds and plug it back in — that restarts the service. Your pairing survives.

Buttons feel delayed or the app says “reconnecting”
  • Tap Fix Connection on the remote screen — it re-finds the TV even after your router hands it a new address.
  • Mesh systems and “AP/client isolation” settings can block phone↔TV traffic; check your router if problems persist.

Heads up: the app may appear as Beam Premium Remote on the App Store; the icon on your home screen says Beam.
